The Color of 2018 Is No Shrinking Violet!
Are you ready to start off 2018 in a bold, new way? If so, Pantone’s “Color of the Year” might be for you. Pantone, a company known for creating the color space used globally called the Pantone Matching System, has name Ultra-Violet 18-3838 as the signature color of 2018.
Ultra-Violet is a deep, vibrant purple that was described by Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, as “the most complex of all colors.” She said, “It takes two shades that are seemingly diametrically opposed — blue and red— and brings them together to create something new. Pantone has selected a “Color of the Year” since 2000, influencing fashion, home goods, paints, fabrics, makeup, and color schemes across the globe.
A vibrant color, Ultra-Violet is considered a color that “communicates originality, ingenuity, and visionary thinking,” according to Eiseman. It is a color that can be seen throughout pop culture from the wellness movement in amethyst crystals to some of the most popular musicians such as Prince.
How can you incorporate Ultra-Violet into your home this year? The color can be used sparingly or as a statement in anything from artwork and accents to walls and furniture. It can be an intimidating color at first glance with fears of the color becoming too overpowering, but pairing Ultra-Violet with a room that has plenty of light and the use of neutrals can help you achieve that perfect purple balance.
