The third largest municipality in Allegheny County, West Deer encompasses 28.874 square miles, with a population of 11,771 people. It offers a rural-residential atmosphere and low crime rates, and hopes to maintain the “small town” atmosphere.  Students are a part of the Deer Lakes School District.

 

  • It is along the northern border of Allegheny County, it was named after Chief Deer, a sub-chief of the Iroquois leader Guyasuta. 
  • Originally part of Deer Township founded in 1796, West Deer was established as an independent community in 1836.
  • Two large parks are located within West Deer Township- Deer Lakes Park (1,180 acres) and Bairdford Park (94 acres).  Between the two parks, almost every recreational activity is available, from fishing to sporting events, residents do not have to travel far to enjoy the outdoors!
